Subzero winter temperatures shut down a lot of things and places but the YMCA in Mexico and the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA in Vandalia were not on the list. Both civic treasurers were both open last week and this week for area residents to get out of the cold and still stay active. Eastern Missouri Family YMCA Director Debbie Hopke told the Ledger that it helped having warmer temperatures during the snow event that preceded the temperature drop rather than having the two things occur at the same time.
