The North Callaway boys have attracted attention in Class 1 wrestling rankings, but Father Tolton has attracted even more.
The 10th-ranked Thunderbirds lost a home dual 54-27 on Thursday to second-ranked Tolton, who won a fourth-place trophy at state a year ago. Tolton had eight pinfalls to win by a sizable margin while bringing three returning state medalists.
Reigning state champion Christopher Ankenmann, state finalist Frank Hazelrigg and sixth-place medalist Brody Narron each won through pinfall while North Callaway’s returning state qualifiers gave the Thunderbirds some victories.
Three-time medalist Lane Kimbley defeated Benjamin Schroeder via a 9-2 decision, and Casper Safranski won via early pinfall. Cooper Safranski and Gunner Wenneker each won via pinfall too.
